The long life of the universe generated in time not only huge gas masses, but also galaxies, stars, supernovas, nebulas, planets and so on. From the most ancient civilizations, humans have been gazing the blue sky vault by naked eye or with more and more advanced tools, identifing different stars: they seemed to be arranged according to particular shapes. Constellations come from our own human view and from the most ancient times they have been rousing human imagination. During the various ages of the history of humankind, a feature common to all peoples on earth was to identify shapes in the sky like starry drawings in a deep blue calotte. On the basis of their traditional myths and divinities, humans have been constantly found out animals and fabulous figures. Nowadays astronomy, using radio telescopes and the most sophisticated instruments, can easily say what kind of stars compose those figures that peoples imagined to have a special life by their own. This series has the aim to urge young adults to scan the sky with interest and to find out how the various civilizations had interpreted constellations. Each volume deals with one constellation, presented through its main elements as discovered by actual astronomy and explained, chapter by chapter, through the myths of different cultures, beginning from the Greek mythology. This series is not simply an urge for better knowing astronomy, but also for the knowledge and respect for different traditions.
