As Patriarch of Venice, Scola founded the association and the magazine “Oasis” to establish a dialogue with the churches of the Middle East. This dialogue embraces the ecumenical relations with the Orthodox church, the many churches in the Mediterranean and a close relationship of cultural exchange with the Imams. The term used by Scola is “mestizaje”: civilizations are born mingling with each other, leading to a real world of mestizos. Scola understood that in Mexico, where colonialism fortunately has not destroyed the reality of the Indios, European Christianity and the religion of the Indios have mixed up, creating the current reality.
