Review
Some works are part of the literary heritage of humankind. Their greatness consists not only in the elegant narrative flow, but also in the strength of their story and message. Among them are the Odyssey, the Divine Comedy, the Tempest, War and peace etc. Children know about them, but won’t enjoy them until the teen years, maybe even later. How introduce then young readers to such literary masterpieces? This series has a simple structure: each work is summarized into five settings, as they were five acts of a play meant for younger readers. A playwriter tells what happens in those five acts, before and after them. An illustrator paints the five settings while drawing the characters along the text. Each volume starts with a large fresco showing the life of that time age: Florence with Dante, London with Shakespeare, Paris with Moliere, Tuscany countryside with Goethe. The text describes the author and its age. Thus children learn that the great stories have been written by famous people from different parts of the world and in different time frames from ancient to modern times.
