Milan has always welcomed and valued the new. The journalist and curator Lorenzo Valentino has invited some of the most illustrious citizens to send a letter to the city that saw them born or that hosts them. Dozens of "doc" Milanese by birth or culture tell of their icons-symbols of the city, the strong signs of a long urban event, the ancient and present wounds, doubts, problems, the directions in which the city should always move, open to novelties but also exposed to its excesses. By linking their memories to a place, a street, a neighborhood, a particular historical moment, the result is a lively and meaningful fresco of how the city changes and is changed by those who were born there or moved there for more different reasons, often linked to "doing". But the reverse is also true: the city, its streets, its architecture, its colors and moods, change us profoundly, to the point of making us part of a complex and changing organism. Among the illustrious "correspondents" who enthusiastically joined the project are the chef Davide Oldani, the art critic Flavio Caroli, the director Andrée Ruth Shammah, and then Giancarlo Pontiggia, Jacopo Fo, Andrea Kerbaker, Alessandro Sallusti, the architect Stefano Boeri, Milo De Angelis, Maria Grazia Mazzocchi, Alberto Pellegatta, Sergio Ubbiali and dozens of other protagonists of the Milanese and Italian cultural scene. The works illustrating the volume are by the painter Marina Previtali.
