The centrality of Rome, its fundamental role for the development of the Gothic age culture in Italy, its function as a melting pot between northern Europe and the Mediterranean, and finally its weight for the "1300 revolution" and for education by Giotto: these are the themes that motivate the discussion on the Roman thirteenth century, the century that was most studied and discovered during the twentieth century, and which continues in these years to appear as a sort of inexhaustible Pandora's box, whose abundance is greatly shown in this volume.
