Fifty years after Guardini’s death, Massimo Borghesi re-reads the heart of Guardini’s philosophy, his doctrine of the polar opposition, in light of the unpublished writings published in recent years. The theory of polarity appears as an attempt to respond to the historical-existential lacerations caused by the Great War. The result is an antinomic thought whose aim is to reconcile subject and object, freedom and truth, modernity and religion, reason and experience. Guardini pursues an affective knowledge capable of uniting heart and reason, concept and intuition.
