According to the Cardinal Martini, each Gospel can be considered as a “manual”: for the catechumens, the catechist, the evangelizer, and the priest. Utilizing this hypothesis, the text presents the exegetical comment of the author as the most significant pericopics of each Gospel. With each stage (and therefore with each Gospel) a specific “conversion” is identified (“religious, moral, intellectual and mystic”). That allows reflection on one specific aspect of Christian life: the sequence, the ethical dimension (individual and ecclesial), the proclamation and the contemplative dimension.
